Students will receive thirty minutes of instruction for how to throw on the pottery wheel. Afterwards, students will have up to an hour and a half of independent work time on the wheel with the assistance of our qualified in-house instructor. If you’d like to fire more than one piece, prices start at $8.00 per clay vessel after the first one. Restrictions apply. Please email rroundtree@quincyartcenter.org for more details.

Students will receive thirty minutes of instruction for how to throw on the pottery wheel. Afterwards, students will have up to an hour and a half of independent work time on the wheel with the assistance of our qualified in-house instructor. If you manage to throw a pot successfully during your session, we’ll fire the first one for free, so come try your hand at this artform and get a little messy with us! No experience needed.

If you’d like to fire more than one piece, prices start at $8.00 per clay vessel after the first one. Restrictions apply. Please email rroundtree@quincyartcenter.org for more details.

Notes: Due to the drying and firing requirements of clay, glazing is not included in Wednesday Night Wheel-Throwing; this event is for clay experimentation and learning only. Monthly glazing workshops occur on the third Saturday of every month if you are interested in glazing your pieces. All clay vessels intended for firing must have been created during a QAC clay class or Wednesday Night Wheel-Throwing session in order to qualify for firing. No outside clay or glazes allowed. NO EXCEPTIONS.

We cannot guarantee that you will successfully wheel-throw a pot during this session. You are not required to keep everything you make.

Basket Weaving: Yarn & Coiling Core

Classes FY24-25
  • $42.00
$42 Non-Members | $35.70 Members
Saturday, July 27
Noon – 3:00pm
Age Level: 15+
Instructor: Carol Clay Mann
Registration Deadline: July 20

Students in this workshop will discover ways to work with simple tools to create functional and beautiful baskets! We will look at examples of modern and historic uses of this technique and begin a basket of your own using colorful yarn and coiling core. We will cover design planning, ways to begin, and several different stitches to use.

NOTE: Yarn basketry is a long process from start to finish, so students will not be able to take home a “finished” basket during this workshop. However, basketry is repetitive and simple once started, so students will be able to take materials home to complete the basket on their own time after the workshop is complete. If you get stuck or need a quiet space to finish your basket, we encourage students to attend our monthly Knitting Circle (any fiber art) on the first Saturday of every month from 11am to 2pm to receive additional help from our instructor.

- All 8 sessions are included in the flat $25 registration fee; you cannot pay per-session.
- Students are not expected to attend every session unless they want to; the club will still meet over school breaks and on half-days.
- Registration prior to attendance is required for safety purposes. You cannot attend the club without submitting relevant emergency contact information and having a parent/guardian sign this permission slip.
- If a student is going to be absent from the club, please call 217.223.5900 or email rroundtree@quincyartcenter.org to inform us ahead of time so we know not to worry about your student! We appreciate being informed.
